Teen Rites of Passage
Adolescence is a stage of life that is one of the most difficult, yet one of the most important and potentially rewarding. It is also a time of great change and confusion.
In traditional societies, family and community guided young people through adolescence. Teens on the cusp of adulthood came to know themselves well, learned about social and familial obligations, and were prepared for how to meet them. There was a clearly defined rite of passage into adulthood.
Giving Teens Emotional Tools
Many parents share my belief that young males and females in contemporary society are inadequately prepared to assume the responsibilities of adulthood. Our casual and individualistic society does not reinforce the values parents try so hard to pass on to their children, leaving teens without a solid moral barometer with which to live their lives.
The changes that happen as a young person transitions into adulthood happen at emotional, physical, as well as spiritual levels. How then do we prepare our children?
Contemporary Coming of Age Ceremonies
A growing number of parents want their teenage son or daughter to have a Rite of Passage or Coming of Age Ceremony to mark the crossing of the threshold from teenager to young adult. These ceremonies, and the preparation for them, allow young people to connect to the significance of what is about to unfold in their lives and help them access their own inner resources to make these changes.
As adults, we understand the importance of knowing ourselves deeply and having personal touchstones to guide us in our journey through life. Creating these tools is the goal of a teen’s Rite of Passage Ceremony.
My fee to create a special ceremony Rite of Passage or Coming of Age Ceremony for your teen begins at $850. I can also create a ceremony for a group of young people, allowing parents to share costs.
