Pregnancy, giving birth, and becoming a mother is the biggest rite of passage in a woman’s life. In pregnancy, a woman prepares to walk through a metaphorical gateway. She will leave one part of her life forever and pass under the archway into a new way of life. In so doing, she leaves things behind, such as her freedom and independence.

Women deserve to be deeply revered for this incredible journey but in today’s accelerated world, we seem to have lost our ability to commemorate motherhood in deeply meaningful ways.

So Not a Baby Shower

For many of us, today’s baby showers just do not hit the mark. Surely women deserve much more than gifts of bibs and diapers to mark the monumental transition they are about to make. A Mother Blessing Ceremony is a nurturing and deeply meaningful alternative to a traditional Baby Shower, which is about the baby, not about your emotional needs.

In your Mother Blessing Ceremony, the women in your life will gather to nurture and inspire you as you move through the final days of your pregnancy. Together we honour this major transition in your life, and give you strength to draw upon for your labour and delivery. Often we bring the father in briefly to adorn you with a garland of flowers that you will wear during your ceremony.

Years after your ceremony, the memory of it will serve as a touchstone to help you stay connected to your hopes, and live a happier, more conscious life as both a woman and as a mother.

Every Mother Blessing Ceremony includes the creation of a gift for the mother and a smaller version for the child. Many women take these gifts into their birthing room for inspiration.
