Our Philosophy

Embracing the BIG moments of Life & discovering the gifts that lie within

At Modern Celebrant, we believe that thoughtful ceremony is a vehicle of transformation. And that reflection and enthralling storytelling are what make it happen. That is why our tagline is, “Honouring Life’s Big Moments through Transformational Ceremonies.”  BIG moments are times in our lives when we yearn to push the ‘pause’ button and connect to matters of the heart… like getting married, mourning a loved one, becoming a mother or a father, weathering a divorce, retiring, just about any passage where we make a significant emotional shift.

Modern Celebrant was founded because of Celebrant Michele Davidson’s personal experiences and her intuitive sense of purpose. One day, asked to communicate the purpose of Modern Celebrant, Michele blurted out,“Awakening people to the Patch of Blue inside them.” The phrase has been with us ever since. We even named our newsletter after it. And, hey, take a look at our logo… there’s our very own patch of blue!

You’re probably wondering: “What does it mean, exactly?”

Well, you know when a song comes on that reminds you of summer; you close your eyes and are instantly transported in your mind’s eye back to the beach with the warm sun on your skin? Or how in the aftermath of a big storm, a crack appears in an inky sky revealing a brilliant ray of sunshine? You can’t help but turn your face to the light. That’s the Patch of Blue.

Michele discovered it in her own dark times. And as a Celebrant she’s helped her clients touch it too… in their times of celebration and in their times of sorrow. For, even in the depths of grief, we can find our way to it even if just for the briefest of moments. The Patch of Blue is what we as human beings unconsciously yearn for… and it is what attentive, loving, and reflective ceremony can bring us.

Modern Celebrant’s Promise to you:

To honour the BIG moments of your life with the attention, love, and reflection that you yearn for. And to help you find that bit of blue :-)
